Ireland pounds-punts ( IEP EUR ) | Irish pound (or, in Irish, punt) IR£ was tied one for one with the British pound until Mar 30, 1979, when IR pound was set free to float. The officially, the new Irish unit that replaced the pound was called the punt, although term Irish pound persisted. Ireland adopted EURO in 1999 and punt was withdrawn from usage Jan 2002.
